HENRY COUNTY, Ga. —
Henry County firefighters spent hours battling a fire that destroyed a storage facility and left a man injured.
The fire was reported shortly before 11 p.m. on Thursday. When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting from the roof at the Hudson Self Storage facility on Hudson Bridge Road in Stockbridge.
“It definitely made it more dangerous due to the fact that we don’t know what’s in the storage facility,” Henry County Fire Capt. Sabrina Puckett said.
At first, crews fought the fire from the outside as smoke poured out of the building.
Once the fire was out, they went inside.
“There’s several different compartments within the storage unit, which involves several different fires, obviously,” Puckett said.
Firefighters were still dealing with flare-ups the next morning. Smoke was billowing from the building while Moore reported from the scene during the pre-dawn hours.
Puckett said arson investigators are talking to one person who checked himself into the Henry County Medical Center with injuries before firefighters arrived at the scene.
“We just know that we had someone appear in a medical facility at the same time as the fire,” she said.
The man has been moved to the Grady Memorial Hospital burn unit.
Though firefighters extinguished the fire, it destroyed the building and everything inside either went up flames or sustained smoke and water damage.
