PHOENIX, Arizona – July19th, 2015 – OpenTech Alliance, one of the self-storage industry’s most innovative companies, and storelocal, the storage industry’s first national cooperative, announced today that they have partnered to develop and deliver an advanced technology platform for the independent operator. The two companies plan to jointly develop the industry’s first global distribution system (GDS) to deliver real-time self storage inventory in a standard, scalable and secure method to consumers and third parties on a variety of platforms much like the Saber system used by the airlines. The GDS will lessen self storage operator’s dependency on Google and open their doors to many other less expensive sources of renters. Consumers will be able to rent, reserve and pay through the GDS from any device.
OpenTech’s mission is to make using storage effortless so more consumers will use it. Today, almost 9% of American use self storage, OpenTech’s goal is to reach 12%. The partnership with storelocal will create a GDS platform that will work with all participating facility management software providers and provide potential renters and other companies such as movers, truck rental companies, apartment management firms, and even bigger players like Yelp, Amazon and Angie’s List with effective ways to drive more consumers to self storage facilities using a fluid, intuitive digital rental experience. By leveraging modern user interface principles in tandem with OpenTech’s award-winning connectivity technology, the two companies plan to create the best self storage user experience on the market.
“OpenTech’s commitment to the independent operator, dedication to innovative technology, and their alignment with storelocal’s mission made them a perfect partner. They have solved a difficult and ongoing connectivity challenge for their kiosks, call center and other applications and now we’re working together to solve the problem for other companies looking to help self storage operators rent more units. The platform we’re developing will expose self storage to more people as well as change the way they experience it,” said storelocal CEO Lance Watkins.
“We totally enjoy working with innovative minds that are not afraid to think big. storelocal is a group of self storage operators that are looking to make self storage easier to use and that concept aligns well with our mission. We are excited to be part of something that will help the entire industry grow,” stated OpenTech’s President and CEO, Robert A. Chiti.
